INTRODUCTION

In June 1966, “Matsuya” opened its doors in Hazawa, Nerima-ku, Tokyo, originally operating as a Chinese restaurant. By 1968, it had introduced its now-signature beef-on-rice (Gyumeshi) and set meal concept, quickly gaining popularity for its fast service, high quality, and affordable prices.
In the 1980s, Matsuya shifted its focus to Gyumeshi as the core offering, later expanding the menu to include set meals, Japanese curry, tonkatsu, and grilled beef (Yakiniku)—catering to a wide range of tastes.
From these humble beginnings, Matsuya has grown into a nationwide and international food service group. Today, it operates under Matsuya Foods Holdings, which also manages well-known brands like My Curry Shokudo, Steak House Matsu, and Matsunoya (specializing in tonkatsu). With a proven track record in Japan and abroad, the group has identified Vietnam as a key strategic market for its expansion in Southeast Asia

“WE HAD FULL CONFIDENCE IN HOSHIZAKI BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCE IN JAPAN. THEY PROVIDED NOT ONLY RELIABLE EQUIPMENT BUT ALSO PRODUCT TRIALS AND LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS AT THEIR SHOWROOM, HELPING US FINALIZE DECISIONS WITH CONFIDENCE.”

MR. ARAKAWA (Matsuya Vietnam Director)

Located in the heart of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Matsuya Saigon Sky Garden began operations as the 3rd store in Vietnam in June 2025, serving a wide range of Japanese comfort food with speed, consistency, and value. This location is also the first Matsuya store in Vietnam to operate 24 hours a day, offering round-the-clock service to both local diners and Japanese expatriates.

While other regional markets were considered, Vietnam stood out due to its rapid urban growth, increasing appetite for Japanese cuisine, and high population density. “We believed beef bowl (Gyumeshi)—a beloved comfort food in Japan—would resonate well with Vietnamese customers.” shares Mr. Arakawa.

Matsuya is renowned for its signature beef bowl (Gyumeshi), but the menu extends beyond a single category. From crispy fried pork (Tonkatsu) and rich Japanese curry to grilled beef (Yakiniku) and set meals, the brand’s strength lies in offering high-quality Japanese comfort food at affordable prices, all with the speed and efficiency of fast-casual service.

In addition to equipment selection and layout design, Hoshizaki provided fast after-sales service, quick responses to installation changes, and even collaborated on developing localized equipment.

Looking to the future, Matsuya has plans to expand aggressively in Vietnam, aiming to open five to six new locations per year. “We look forward to continued collaboration with Hoshizaki. Access to a full range of reliable products and local development support will be essential as we grow.” Mr. Arakawa explains.

With its blend of authentic Japanese flavor, local adaptation, and operational excellence, Matsuya is redefining quick-service Japanese dining in Vietnam—offering a consistent and high-quality experience that reflects the brand’s heritage and vision.
